A Premium Pulman basket centrifuge is a mechanical device used to separate solids from liquids through centrifugal force. It is widely employed in various industries for its efficiency in filtering, dewatering, and separating materials. Design & Construction
The core component of a basket centrifuge is a cylindrical, perforated rotating basket enclosed within a solid casing. The basket is lined with a filtering medium that retains solid particles while allowing liquids to pass through. As the basket spins at high speeds, centrifugal force pushes the slurry against the wall, where solids are captured and liquids are expelled.
Depending on the application, the centrifuge may be designed for manual, semi-automatic, or fully automatic operation. The construction materials vary based on the chemical and physical properties of the processed material, with options including stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant alloys.
Operating Principle
The operation begins by feeding the slurry into the spinning basket. The centrifugal force generated by rotation drives the mixture outward. Liquid passes through the filter medium and exits via drainage ports, while the solid content accumulates along the inner wall of the basket.
Once separation is complete, the solids can be manually or automatically discharged, depending on the configuration. Some models allow for continuous feeding and batch discharge, while others are designed for fully continuous operation

• Quick Bag/Basket Lifting Arrangement (Top Discharge)
- Bag Lifting
This system is designed to reduce the cycle time for each centrifuge batch. The bag, placed inside the basket and attached to its top cover, is lifted along with the cover after centrifugation using a suitable lifting mechanism. The filter bag and the dried solid are removed together. The dried material is then discharged, and the same bag and basket are quickly reassembled for the next batch—eliminating the need for manual powder removal. - Basket Lifting
The basket lifting arrangement enables quick and easy replacement of baskets between batches. This improves batch frequency within a given time frame and boosts production with only a small investment in an extra basket. This setup is commonly used in fat extraction processes. The centrifuge can be equipped with a steam jacket.
Bottom Discharge Premium Basket Centrifuge
- This type of centrifuge operates at two different rotational speeds. Initially, the slurry is fed into the basket at a low speed to prevent imbalance. After feeding, the speed is increased to quickly separate the liquid. Once the drying process is complete, the speed is reduced again, and the solid powder is scraped off using a hydraulic or mechanical scraper.
- The removed material falls through an opening at the bottom of the basket and is transported via a suitable conveyor. To protect the filter cloth from damage by the scraper, a perforated sheet is placed inside the basket. The filter cloth is positioned between the perforated basket and the perforated sheet.
