Salt Refining Process

(A) Raw Salt Feeding

  • Raw salt is taken from stockpiles or dumpers and loaded into hoppers, then conveyed to a magnetic separator to remove metal particles.
  • It is then passed through crushers to reduce size and eliminate lumps.

(B) Salt Washing & Milling

  • The crushed salt is washed with brine to remove impurities and transferred to a thickener for slurry preparation.
  • Slurry is processed in a hydrocyclone, then centrifuged to extract salt cake, which is dried.
  • Drying can be done via hot air dryers or fluid bed dryers, depending on the plant design.
  • The dried salt is cooled, screened, and sent for storage.

(C) Dosing of Additives & Coating

  • The dried salt is blended with iodine and other additives as required.
  • Final salt is packaged or sent to storage silos.
  • Brine from washing is recycled or treated for reuse. Residual sludge is removed through clarifiers and stored or discharged properly.
